Kadena bird spotted at the 'Heath

Click for a bigger pictureSerious excitement for twitchers was generated around Lakenheath in January, not for the expected delivery of more F-15I Thunders but the fact that a single F-15C of the 18th Wing, normally based at Kadena, Japan had arrived for a bit of twiddling with the wing.

A unit not normally seen in the western hemisphere, the squadron was on detachment at Incirlik in Turkey. Arriving on the 2nd of January as "Knife 01", the elusive bird spent three weeks in and out of the hangar teasing spotters, only flying a couple of times. A new wing was fitted and it left on the 27th January, bound for Incirlik as "Deadly 11".
